The palazzo is within the medieval walls of the town of Ghivizzano. This town is of great historical importance during the feudal periods of the Italian peninsula. One of the more noted figures was Castruccio Castrocani who was one of those warrior courtiers that after spending time with the English and French courts then supplied his military expertise to Pisa then to the ruling Bavarian court in Lucca and actually was instrumental in creating the fortress town of Ghivizzano.
